With the passage of Connecticut’s Covered Electronic Devices (“CEDs”) Law in July 2007 and implementing regulations effective on June 1, 2010, manufacturers of TVs, computers (including laptops, desktops, tablets and e-readers), computer monitors, and printers are responsible for the costs of recycling covered electronic devices that are collected by CT DEEP-approved covered electronic recyclers at municipal or regional drop off locations. Manufacturers of CEDs must register annually with CT DEEP.

Municipalities must provide for the free, convenient and accessible collection of household-generated CEDs and may meet this requirement by working on their own or in conjunction with a regional plan. Municipalities need to provide a free drop-off location for their residents to recycle CEDs.  CT DEEP maintains a list of these residential e-waste drop-off locations on its website. However, more detailed information about individual town e-waste recycling programs can be found through your local recycling coordinator

On January 1, 2011, a disposal ban was put into effect for all covered devices, meaning no CEDs may be placed in the trash.
