The Current Impacts and Future of E-Scrap Laws in the U.S.

Next year will mark ten years since the passage of the first state legislation in the U.S. establishing a mandated program for electronics recycling.  Since then, 24 other states have joined the ranks and are all now fully in effect as of the beginning of 2012.  Beyond the nuts and bolts of how each law (differently) solves the challenge of setting up electronics recycling programs, what have been the positive and negative impacts of these systems?  What are the future challenges for state-by-state laws with the changing dynamics of both the recycling industry and the evolution of new products marketed by manufacturers and retailers?  This workshop, hosted by the Electronics Recycling Coordination Clearinghouse (ERCC), will pose these questions to a diverse panel of state agencies, manufacturers, and recyclers.  The in-depth discussion at the workshop will form the basis for a moderated Q&A session during the main E-Scrap Conference.

Fee: Free for ERCC members, $50 for non-members

E-Scrap 2011

On October 4, 2011, the ERCC held a pre-conference workshop at The E-Scrap Conference, entitled "Solutions for Harmonization of State E-Scrap Program Laws."
This workshop expanded on last year's ERCC workshop, which identified the biggest challenges for stakeholders and program managers due to the differing state laws on electronics recycling. From that workshop the ERCC and its members developed a number of tools and documents to address the highest priorities.

At the 2011 E-Scrap pre-conference workshop, the ERCC focused on solutions to those challenges that were previously identified and set forth to develop a “Harmonization Work Plan.”
